The Tedee Door Sensor is a device designed to detect whether a door is open or closed. It adds an important level of security control to your home, office, or short-term rental system by working in real-time with a smart lock, linking its status information to the door's status and enabling detailed logs.

The Door Sensor consists of a sensor and magnet that are easily installed using adhesive pads on the door leaf and frame. By measuring the distance between these parts, the device then verifies the door's status accurately. Based on this, it prevents automatic locking if the door is left unclosed, can also trigger alerts when the door is left open for a prolonged time, and records all open/close events in the device's activity history. The status of the lock and the door can then be checked at any time in the tedee app. The system also supports advanced features, such as smart control of the lock's pull spring, which enhances the convenience of entering a secured area every time.

The door sensor is compatible with all tedee lock models and is designed for indoor use. It operates wirelessly, is powered by a commercially available CR2032 battery with a life of up to two years, and requires no complicated installation. Smart door status detection for better security and automation

Are your doors secure? Locked is not the same as closed. The door leaf and the lock are two separate entities. Securing only one of them is not enough, and even the most advanced smart lock cannot guarantee complete protection without checking the door's status. That's why tedee has introduced Door Sensor – a compact but powerful upgrade for the PRO, GO2, and GO smart locks. Its role is to detect the opening/closing of doors in real time and ensure that they are physically closed and locked at the same time. This takes modern access control up an important notch and brings you greater convenience, security, and safety.

How does the tedee Door Sensor work?

The Tedee Door Sensor consists of two components – a sensor and a magnet that easily attach to the inside of the door and its frame. Based on calibrated positions, the sensor detects the position of the door leaf relative to the frame and accurately determines whether the door is closed or open. It then displays this status in real time in the tedee app, along with information about the status of the smart lock. The sensor communicates with the lock and provides several handy functions. First and foremost, it can prevent the door from locking automatically in error when opened. Additional protection enhancements when using a smart lock with the Tedee Door Sensor include security alerts (push notifications) sent to your mobile device if your door is left open beyond a preset time limit.

Comprehensive activity logging

When enabled in the Tedee app settings, the Tedee Door Sensor collects logs of all door openings and closings, separate from lock/unlock events. Even if your door stays unlocked for an extended time, this enables you to monitor door activity independently from the smart lock status. Please note: to view door openings/closings live and remotely, your Tedee smart lock must be paired with a Wi-Fi-connected Tedee Bridge. If you’re not using a Tedee Bridge, the activity logs – including door events – are updated retrospectively via Bluetooth when you’re within range of the Tedee smart lock.

Smarter pull spring

A great benefit of using Tedee smart locks – especially on inward-opening doors, is their pull spring feature. This enables a smart lock not only to unlock the door lock (retract the lock bolts) but also to retract the latch, working as if you pressed the door’s handle. This allows you to enter more easily, or even hands-free, just by pushing or pulling the door leaf. You can preset the feature to work when manually triggered or during all opening operations, including automatic unlocking. When your smart lock is used with the Tedee Door Sensor, the latch retraction is deactivated as soon as the door leaf swings away from the doorframe. To benefit from this synergy, increase the pull time in the pull spring settings of your smart lock. This gives you more flexibility when returning home, keeps the latch retracted for longer, optimizes door locking after you, and contributes to battery savings.

Easy maintenance and installation

Connecting the door sensor to a smart keyless entry system does not require complicated installation. Installation is quick and non-invasive, as the sensor and magnet are installed using pre-adhesive pads on the inside of the door. The device should be placed on the edge of the door furthest from the door hinges. The specific arrangement of the components depends on the direction and type of door opening (rebated/non-rebated). The device should be no more than 2 metres away from the smart lock and requires calibration after installation to function properly. The door sensor is 100% wireless and connects to the smart lock via Bluetooth. It is powered by the included CR2032 battery with a lifetime of up to 2 years. This is a common 3V lithium coin cell battery widely available worldwide and is used in many small electronic devices such as remote controls, watches, or toys.
